North American distributor GKIDS announced on Wednesday that its planned theatrical screening of Masaaki Yuasa and Studio 4°C's Mind Game anime film will open on February 16, with additional screenings running until March 17. A full list of schedules and screening theaters is available on GKIDS' website for the film.
The film became available for streaming on the VRV streaming service last December. A special edition home video release of the film will launch late this spring. British distributor Anime Limited had previously worked with Studio 4°C to hold a Kickstarter campaign for a Blu-ray Disc release.
Based on a manga by Robin Nishi, Mind Game features a variety of experimental visual styles. The story follows Nishi, who wants to become a manga artist and marry his childhood sweetheart, Myon, but Myon is already engaged to someone else. Nishi goes to visit her family and runs into a pair of yakuza, kicking off an adventure that involves meeting God and being trapped in the belly of a whale.
